PARENTS CODE FOR WRESTLING
The attitude shown by parents at every meet toward the opposing team, the officials, and the coach has a strong influence on your child’s values and behavior in all sports. Criticism and disrespect undermine the purpose of the sport and create unnecessary stress for all. Parents can provide a positive support role for their child, including the following:

  • Teach your child with example rather than criticism
  • Make athletics a positive and fun experience
  • Attempt to relieve the pressure of competition, not increase it.
  • Be kind to referees and coaches. They are volunteering to help your child.
  • Applaud good moves by your child as well as the opposing wrestler.
  • Encourage your child to be gracious in victory, and to turn defeat into victory by improving his weaknesses.
